About
Who we are.
Historically, to glean was to “gather grain or other produce left by reapers.” Gleaners combed harvested areas for left behind material that could still be used. This important tradition, especially in the South, gave value to leftovers considered too insignificant for economic gain.
Only 3% of all US food waste is reused through composting. 97% is buried. We’re a group of community-minded people who’ve set out to make composting easier and more practical for everyone. To us, Glean is a way to improve our community and promote a healthier, more sustainable future.
What we do.
Glean is a sustainable composting business. We sell fresh compost made from locally-generated compostable materials.
Most food ends up in landfills producing methane and going to waste – diverting it is easy, reduces methane, and reuses said food (which tons of energy, mainly oil, was invested to grow). We mimic nature and partner with natural decomposers to recycle food the way nature intended. And while doing so, we’re accomplishing our dream of operating a business while supporting the natural environment – not damaging it.
We’re on a mission to fulfill our purpose to make composting easier and more practical for everyone. We’re all responsible for our community’s well-being; the team at Glean is dedicated to promoting that well-being with our operations.
